Mark Lowry

Profile Updated: May 5, 2013
Residing In: Shorewood Hills, WI USA
Occupation: Economist
Spouse/Partner: Widowed
Children: My daughter Emma graduated with a degree in Poly Sci from Scripps College in southern California. After More…a turn as a White House intern she became a political consultant and is now working on the Los Angeles mayoral race. She lives in the colorful Echo Park section of the city below Dodger Stadium. A small rock venue near here house recently headlined the Rolling Stones! My son Sam is married to a Japanese woman and teaches English near Nagasaki Japan.
My stepdaughter Emily Levin is a senior at Boston University. My stepson Eric Levin attends Oakland Community College in suburban Detroit. He was recently accepted for fall admission to the University of Michigan.

Don't expect any of these anytime soon.

I graduated from Hawken School and, after a couple of years at Princeton, took a few years off to work on riverboats and see the world. Ended up in Madison, WI and got a PhD in Applied Economics. After a few years as a professor at Penn State I returned to Madison and now run a small consulting firm called Pacific Economics Group Research. I mostly work in the area of energy utility regulation. My biggest projects right now are in Alberta, Quebec, and Maine. In my spare time I enjoy travelling, mostly to LA or Chicago or to obscure locales in the West.
The biggest tragedies in my life have been the deaths of my wife Elizabeth Lowry (heart attack) and my subsequent life partner Ann Kelley (colon cancer). I was fortunate to be able to parent my two step children for a couple of years after Ann died. Despite these setbacks I have great kids and a stimulating career and enjoy my life in Madison. Regrettably, I rarely return to Cleveland since my parents died years ago.

School Story:

I have lots of fond memories from my two years at Woodbury. Al Maples, Hugh Lewis, Stewart Peck, and the rest of the guys in Sal Fabrizio's homeroom. Parties with Janet Bolz, Sally Cooper, Laurie Stein, and Shelly Frisch. Grammer class with Mrs. King. High school football games at Shaker. The Albert Ladanyi experience. Hanging in the neighborhood with Bert Debenedetto and Bertie Riley. Had some friends at Hawken that some of you will remember from grade school. Jimmie Marcus and the estimable Howard Halle (RIP).

Classmates You Still See Regularly:

I see Stewart Peck on my occasional visits to New Orleans. I attended the wedding of his daughter last year.

I had a crush on Billie for several years at Fernway.  I remember her sitting up at the front of Mrs. Stark's class. Or was it Mrs. Emsweiler's?  So cute!!!

RIP Billie

Happy Birthday, Mark! What do you do in Baltimore? My business takes me there occasionally and I enjoy it.

I am fortunate to live near Lake Mendota. I enjoy walking down the hill (I live on a glacial drumlin) to see the sunsets.
